Color color color..........color is everywhere around us, yet, unless we are specifically required to think about color, it's something most of us usually take for granted.

Theories abound about what the meaning behind colors is, and what the colors you wear say about your personality.

For fun, the following are some of those theories, and what they could say about you!

What is color? Out of the many vibrations reaching the earth a tiny octave is registered by the optic nerves. Our eyes respond to these particular vibrations with a reaction that we know as color.

There are many aspects in our daily lives where, although we are not aware of it, color plays a role, while in other aspects, much though and deliberation has gone into the choice of color.

For example, why do you prefer to wear that blue shirt, or green sweater, and stay as far away from orange, or pink as possible. Here you are consciously aware of what colors look best on you. Women, and some men, even get "their colors" professionally done, so that they can never go wrong on their clothing and make-up color choices, and know which shade of what is most flattering on them.

Yet in ways we may not even be aware of, color choices were specifically made in order to affect us, were it to stimulate, or not, our thoughts, and emotions. For example, interior designers and decorators use color in rooms and decor to either soothe or stimulate our senses, according to the function of the room. Did you know that orange stimulates appetite (think fast food restaurants)?
Or that light colors supposedly stimulate productivity in the workplace, while deeper darker colors relax us and provoke contemplation?

Other industries that also use color effectively and with purpose: advertising, product design, marketing, industrial design, and environmental design.

Colors also "color" our language: we are "green with envy", or "yellow belly". We " show our true colors", are "true blue", "feel blue"," see red", and so on, and so forth.

Mystics also believe that we radiate emanations of everything we are composed of, and that a person with extra sensitive sight is able to see the colors of these rays which are referred to as a person's aura.

Color, therefore, affects many aspects of our lives, and research has shown that it can affect us psychologically and impact our lives in ways we are not aware of. Medical research has also proven that different colors have definite effects on our nervous system and that they act independently of our consciousness and intellect.

Color can therefore affect and even change our feelings, our mood, our emotions. The following are some of the associations and connections that have been made between color and our feelings, emotions, and character.

BLUE
:: Blue is the color of the sky, and the ocean. It is also one of the most popular colors, with both sexes. Blue represents calm and peacefulness and is associated with environmental and psychological tranquility and contentment. It can also pacify and relieve tension and stress and convey a sense of belonging and relaxation. For this reason, it is a popular bedroom color.

:: It also represents loyalty, and productivity (think the power blue suit).

:: If blue is your color, than you value balance and harmony and a settled and secure life that is stress and tension free.

GREEN
:: Green is the color of nature. It is considered a healing, soothing and refreshing color of positive energy. In fact, it's often used in hospitals to relax patients. It is the color of peace and harmony that gives stability to the environment. It is also the color of honesty and truth.

:: It expresses itself psychologically as the color which seeks peaceful resolution, persistence, firmness and consistency. It is a strong color.

:: Dark green is a masculine, conservative color, implying wealth. In the Middle Ages, brides wore green to symbolize fertility.

:: If green is your color, then you are confident in, and value your intellect and your capabilities. You find your comfort not in feeling, but rather in action, and information. If green is your color, you are the pacifier of the world, you are the cooling influence who seeks stability and gives harmony to the world.

RED
:: Red is a heat-giving, stimulating, exciting, energizing, and cheerful color.

:: It is a very strong color, which attracts and stimulates the mind, and has a high level of energy. It symbolizes strength, aggression, and passion (not the best color for negotiation).

:: In decor, it should be avoided in places where a peaceful environment is preferred.

:: It's said that drivers of red cars are more noticeable, therefore, more often stopped by the police, and that red cars are most often selected by car thieves.

:: As the most emotionally stimulating, exciting and intense color, it is also the color of love.

Pink:
::
Add white to red, and it becomes all softness and sweetness. While red is the color of love and passion, pink is the color of romance, and tenderness.

:: In North America, pink is associated with femininity, babies, and little girls. In fashion, the color pink for men comes and goes.

:: Studies show that while pink is a tranquilizing color, large amounts of pink can create physical weakness in people. It is said that sports teams paint the visiting team's locker rooms bright pink so their opponents will lose energy.

:: While pink is associated with gentleness, too much pink has also been shown to have quite a violent opposite effect: In a 1979 experiment on the effects of pink, holding cells in correctional and jail facilities in two US cities were painted pink. Initially, within 15 minutes of being placed in the cells, detainees became restful and playful. This would change. After about 4 hours, the prisoners became violent, losing control, and even trying to injure themselves and destroy the cells. Studies also show that exposing animals to pink light for long periods of time caused them to become cannibalistic.

ORANGE
:: Orange is a warm, invigorating color, associated with the sun, and representing power and strength.

:: If orange is your color, than you have a vital force in life. You wish to achieve results, be successful, are full of desire, and a wish to offer to the world a full intense life's experience. You want to, and enjoy, giving enjoyment to others.

:: Orange is the color of "today", it has appetite, and is appetite inducing. It is active, and productive, and has a strength of purpose. It is the color of wealth of emotions, of the mind, and knowledge.

:: It represents growth, and new beginnings.

:: It's also the color of the Escapes Design logo and web site, and we love it! And now we know why!

YELLOW
:: Yellow is a stimulating color, and a color of action. It is also a friendly and cheerful color, as well as color of warmth.

:: It is said to represent wisdom and intellect. It is also said to enhance concentration (think yellow legal pads).

:: Yellow is a color of social energy, and if yellow is your color, than you are one who cooperates well with others, and prefers to follow rather than lead. It is also the color of curiosity, and a desire to make situations better.

:: While is it considered an optimistic color, since it is a friendly, cheerful and social, color, it also has a negative side: people are said to lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and babies will cry more in yellow rooms.

GOLD
:: Gold represents a need to be responsible, to fulfill duties and obligations, to organize and structure our life and that of others.

:: Those with Gold as a their color value being practical and sensible. They believe that people should earn their way in life through work and service to others.

:: Gold reflects a need to belong through carrying your share of the load in life. It represents stability, organization, efficiency, and dependability. It embraces the concepts of home and family with fierce loyalty and faithfulness.

PURPLE/VIOLET
:: Purple is the color of royalty, self confidence and ego. It's the color of ambition, and power. Purple is also the color of luxury, wealth, and sophistication.

:: Yet purple is also considered feminine and romantic.

:: Violet represents noble spiritual aspiration. For this reason, its been the color associated with priestly ceremonies. It cools the nerves, is magnetic and antiseptic.

Both purple and violet speak of honor, spirituality and self-esteem.

:: Brown is a warm and comforting color. It is also associated with masculine things. Men are more likely to favor brown.

BLACK
:: Black shows a great feeling for form and for social events. It represents formality, dignity, and has reserved energy. Black is the color of strong drive and purpose.

Black is also the color of authority and power. But can also imply submission: priests wear it to signify submission to God.

In fashion, black is popular because it makes the wearer appear thinner. It is also stylish and timeless. In can also imply evil or villains: the bad cowboy in the black hat, or the villain in all-black.

WHITE
:: White is the strongest and most pure of all the colors. It is said to be the color of perfection and pure light energy. Brides wear white to symbolize purity and innocence.

:: It represents good and fair judgment and shows the path of the spirit.

:: White absorbs all the rays and is therefore a cooling and restful color.

:: In fashion white is popular since it is light, neutral, and goes with everything. White also reflects light and is therefore considered a summer color. Doctors and nurses wear white to imply sterility.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Colors, therefore, can have more of an impact on us than we are aware. They can also say more about us than we care to admit to, or influence us in more way than we can image.

If applied consciously and effectively, we can use color to promote positive feelings and emotions. Colors can soothe us, inspire us, or energize us.

In the end, the important thing is not the shade of the sweater you are wearing, or what the color of your socks, or lipstick may say about you, the important thing is that we are lucky to experience these
vibrations that reach the earth and register in our optic nerves to bathe our lives in millions of shades colors.

Carbon Fiber
Carbon is the most common chemical element found freely in nature. Plants and most natural organisms consist of carbon, with graphite being on of the softest know material forms of carbon, and diamond being one of the hardest forms.

In the 1900s a new group of materials called composites appeared. Carbon fiber is one of the latest reinforcement materials used in composites. The combination of carbon and other elements produces an extremely light, extremely strong compound called "carbon fiber", which consists of microscopic fibers made up of the same compound wound tightly together and then held there with a very strong adhesive.

This high-tech material is extremely lightweight, yet incredibly strong. It provides optimum structural properties, which make it better than most metals, and stronger and lighter than steel for many applications. Carbon fiber can be found in many applications today, including the Stealth bomber and Formula 1 race cars, and in construction.

Today, carbon fiber has been developed for use in the aeronautical and space industry technologies, where stringent and sophisticated requirements are inherent, such as the Stealth bomber, satellites, the Space Station, rocket motor casings. It can also be found in everyday articles and purposes where extraordinary high performance was needed, such as Formula One race cars, sports equipment, boats etc. It also has application in medicine, and is used in artificial human body parts.

Escapes Design is proud to feature designs made with this high tech, ultra modern material. In addition to its superior strength and durability properties, the spun carbon fiber material also has an attractive weave pattern design.

Stainless Steel
In 1912, during World War I, English metallurgist Harry Brearly was searching for an alloy that would prevent erosion and protect cannon bores. He discovered that when chromium was added to low carbon steel, the steel became resistant to staining.

The characteristics and benefits of stainless steel and many and diverse: it has unique and exceptional corrosion resisting properties and allows stainless steel to last for a long time; has high fire and heat resistance which allow it to retain its strength at high temperatures; it requires less maintenance, and is easy to clean, making it ideal in strict hygiene controlled areas such as hospitals and kitchens.

Aesthetically, it is also very pleasing. It has a deep, medium to dark gray color to it, and when polished, the surface has a mirror like shine to it. This bright, easily maintained surface of stainless steel provides a modern and attractive appearance in numerous applications.

Since the early 1900's, stainless steel, in one form or another, is found in our daily lives, from aircraft engines during World War I, to cutlery in the 1920's and construction in the 1930's. Such notable buildings which incorporated the use of stainless steel were the Chrysler Building in 1930, and the Empire State Building in 1931

The many unique characteristics of stainless steel have been discovered by architects, engineers, artists, designers, metal smiths, and jewelers all over the world. Its longevity, light weight, strength, flexibility, easy maintenance, resistance to staining, corrosion, tarnish and oxidization has made it the material of choice for buildings, furniture, appliances, design, and, yes, accessories and jewelry.

We at Escapes are proud to feature contemporary designs in this most unique material, merging material and design in beautiful jewelry you will be proud to wear for years to come.

Glass Jewelry - Murano - Venetian - Made in Italy
Each glass jewelry item in our Glass Collection is handmade in Italy and created with Murano and Venetian glass and glass beads.

Where are they made:
Our beautiful glass items are made in Venice and Murano, Italy. Murano is actually one of a group of islands located North West of the city of Venice, Italy, which enjoys world wide fame and recognition for their glass art. Today the island is home to about 5000 Muranese, half of which work in the glass industry

Brief History:
The history of glass making in the area is believed to date back to the 8th century. In 1291, the Venetian Republic ordered glass makers to move their foundries to the island of Murano because the glassworks represented a fire danger in Venice. Politically, this consolidation favored the government by virtually isolating the very profitable glassmaking community and allowing the government to better oversee and manage the industry.

The industry was therefore concentrated in the island and glassmakers there became the leading citizens. Their prestige came at a price however: glassmakers were not permitted to leave the Republic, and heavy sentences were laid on those revealing secrets. This was the government's means of protecting the secrets and safeguarding the glass making techniques held by this very profitable monopoly.

Today, Murano continues to be a center of glass making and exporting. The style and artistry of their glass has maintained its value and their masters maintain their reputations throughout the world.

Quality:
Each piece is handworked, or blown by a human working in the furnaces in Murano.

Small bubbles that appear are a natural part of the glassblowing process. They are not flaws, rather contribute to the uniqueness of a piece.

Because they are handmade and not machine made there will appear slight variances, such as shape and size. No two items will ever be exactly the same. That's why the item you order will not appear exactly as pictured.

Glass Terms:

Lampwork
Lumè in Italian, it means that the beads were hand-worked over a natural gas flame which generates enough heat to melt the glass.

Avventurina
A process accidentally discovered and developed for glass use in Murano in the early 17th century. The avventurina (Avventuria in italian) gives a swirling iridescent and glittering copper and gold effect to the glass. The glass is crystallized from the melted mixture of transparent colorless glass with cuprous oxide and iron and lead oxides. The result is a shimmery, metallic look.

Gold and Silver Foil
Small squares of tissue thin 24kt gold foil and .925 sterling silver foil are used. A final coat of clear or translucent glass is layered over the gold and silver foil. Since the gold and silver are covered, they will not peel or chip away.
